A burglary attempt in the dead of night at Jodukallu, near Uppala, was quickly thwarted thanks to a vigilant family and swift police response. The incident unfolded around 3 am on Saturday, within the jurisdiction of the Manjeshwar police station.

The suspect, 34-year-old Kalandar Shafi, a resident of Shantyodaya in Jodukallu, reportedly broke into the residence of Harish at Kannattipara, Bekoor. He allegedly forced his way through the front door, causing a commotion that woke up the sleeping household.

Startled by the sudden noise, the family members quickly raised an alarm and shouted for assistance. The intruder, spooked by their response, escaped the spot in an autorickshaw. The residents wasted no time in alerting the police and shared this vital detail.

Manjeshwar police immediately arrived at the location and began combing through CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Their investigation bore fruit swiftly, leading them to identify and nab the accused within a few hours of the break-in attempt.

Further probe into the background of the accused revealed his past involvement in a drug-related case from 2021, in which authorities had seized five kilograms of cannabis from his possession.

The community has applauded both the quick-thinking actions of the family and the police’s prompt efforts in apprehending the culprit. Their combined vigilance ensured a crime was averted before any harm was done.
