The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening when a 120-foot by 120-foot billboard toppled onto a petrol station due to strong winds and unexpected rain, killing 16 people and injuring 75 others. After the accident, Bhinde fled Mumbai with his driver.

Mumbai Police deployed eight teams to various locations to find Bhinde, who was eventually located in Udaipur on Thursday evening, three days after the billboard’s collapse.

According to the police, Bhinde initially traveled to Lonavala before returning to Mumbai the next day. He then moved to Thane, proceeded to Ahmedabad, and after multiple relocations, he altered his identity and hid in a hotel in Udaipur. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Lakhmi Gautam, who led the investigation, sent a Crime Branch team to Udaipur, where they successfully detained him.

The search and rescue operation at the collapse site was completed by 10 am on Thursday, as confirmed by an official from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The illegal billboard was installed on land controlled by the Government Railway Police (GRP).

This incident has brought to light significant lapses in the regulatory oversight of advertising installations in Mumbai, leading to increased demands for stricter enforcement of safety standards.
