The Union Cabinet has endorsed the “One Nation, One Election” initiative, aiming to synchronize the Lok Sabha, state assembly, and local body elections across India. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed concerns that frequent elections hinder national development, suggesting that uninterrupted election cycles are a barrier to progress. The government plans to introduce a bill in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, after previously accepting the recommendations of a high-level committee. This proposal has already gained Cabinet approval, signaling a move towards phased simultaneous elections across the country.
