New Delhi: The Union government is set to introduce tougher measures to combat examination paper leaks, with the Cabinet expected to consider amendments to the Public Examinations Act at its meeting on Friday.
The move follows a video message by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured the country that stronger action would be taken to protect the integrity of public examinations and curb organised paper leak rackets.
Harsher punishment proposed
According to the proposed amendments, individuals found guilty of leaking examination papers could face five to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine of up to ₹1 crore.
The government believes the stricter provisions will act as a deterrent against organised exam mafias and strengthen the credibility of competitive examinations.
Cabinet approval expected
The proposed changes are expected to be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval. If cleared, the amendments will further strengthen the legal framework governing public examinations and enable stricter action against those involved in malpractice.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over paper leak incidents in recent years, which have affected several competitive examinations and sparked demands for stronger accountability.
The government has maintained that the proposed amendments are aimed at ensuring greater transparency, fairness and public confidence in the country’s examination system.
