COIMBATORE: In a tragic accident on Monday afternoon, a 34-year-old car showroom employee was crushed to death after a water tanker truck overturned on Avinashi Road. The victim, R Prasanth of Cylon Colony in Podanur, was the son of Manonmani, a special sub-inspector with the Podanur all-women police station.
Prasanth, who worked in the car delivery section of the showroom, was present when a large water tanker arrived to refill the facility’s storage tanks. The truck entered through the main gate but was instructed to reverse to access the tank inlet. As the driver reversed, the vehicle’s rear tyres ran over cement slabs covering a stormwater drain.
Prasanth was standing on those slabs when they gave way, causing the truck to tip over and fall on him. He died on the spot from the impact.
Police and emergency teams rushed to the scene after being alerted by showroom staff. It took about 30 minutes to extricate the body from under the truck. His remains were sent to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital in Varadharajapuram for a postmortem examination.
The Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW-East) registered a case against the tanker driver, Ramasamy (45) of Samathuvapuram, Vellakinar.
