The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has summoned Meta‘s Global Head of Public Policy after the social media giant removed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook post addressing the youth amid the NEET-UG 2026 controversy.
According to sources, the ministry has sought an explanation from Meta over the removal of the Prime Minister’s post, which was published on July 23.
Centre seeks explanation from Meta
Sources said the IT Ministry has called Meta’s senior public policy executive to explain why the Prime Minister’s Facebook post was removed from the platform.
The post, shared during the nationwide student protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, was part of the Prime Minister’s outreach to students and young people across the country.
Post focused on paper leak issue
In the video message, Prime Minister Modi assured students that the government would take stringent action against those responsible for examination paper leaks. He also pledged measures to strengthen the examination system and protect the interests of students.
The video was released while protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) were taking place across the country over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.
Meta yet to respond
The summons comes amid heightened scrutiny of social media platforms over content moderation and the handling of posts by public figures.
As of now, Meta has not issued an official statement explaining the removal of the Prime Minister’s Facebook post or responding to the ministry’s action.
