Nine Maoist insurgents lost their lives during an altercation with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Tuesday. The clash ensued in a woodland close to Lendra village at approximately 6 am as a joint security team conducted operations against Naxal activities.

The operation involves personnel from various units including the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA).

Subsequent to the skirmish, law enforcement recovered multiple firearms, among them a light machine gun, alongside other weaponry. Presently, a thorough search operation is in progress within the vicinity.

Bijapur, situated in the Bastar region, remains a focal point of Maoist insurgent activities. According to reports from PTI citing police sources, this year alone, approximately 41 Naxal insurgents have met their demise in separate encounters with security forces within the Bastar region.

This occurrence unfolds just ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Bastar Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled for polling in the initial phase on April 19.

Notably, Naxal insurgents intensify their operations from March onwards as part of their Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC). The timeframe spanning from March to June has historically witnessed numerous assaults on security personnel within the Bastar region.

Just the previous month, security forces engaged in a confrontation with Naxal insurgents resulting in the demise of six insurgents in the Basaguda area of Bijapur.
