In a bizarre turn of events rooted in a schoolyard conflict from five decades ago, two men were arrested in Kerala’s Kasargod district for assaulting a 62-year-old man over a Class 4 altercation.

The accused, Balakrishnan and Mathew Valiyaplakkal, allegedly attacked VJ Babu, Balakrishnan’s former classmate, on June 2. The incident reportedly followed an informal reunion of old schoolmates, where a verbal spat reignited old wounds.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Balakrishnan confronted Babu over an alleged fight that took place in fourth grade. Though the argument was initially thought to be resolved, Balakrishnan and Mathew later ambushed Babu. During the assault, Balakrishnan grabbed Babu by the collar, and Mathew struck him in the face and back with a stone.

Babu was rushed to the Kannur Government Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

Police have filed a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), invoking sections for:

  • Wrongful restraint (126(2))

  • Causing hurt with dangerous means (118(1))

  • Common intention in assault (3(5))

  • The case has stunned locals with its sheer pettiness and timeline, marking one of the most unusual revenge attacks in recent memory.
