A day after a 35-year-old man died after suffering fatal injuries caused by Chinese manjha, his wife revealed that the tragedy has left the family not only emotionally devastated but also struggling under a crushing financial burden of nearly ₹35 lakh in loans.

Mohammad Shoaib, a medical representative working as a sales manager with a pharmaceutical company, died on Wednesday evening after his throat was slit by a kite string near the Haiderganj flyover in Lucknow.

## Sole breadwinner lost, loans now overwhelming

Speaking to local media, Shoaib’s wife said her husband was the sole earning member of the family and was constantly worried about repaying the loans, most of which were taken to purchase and build their house.

“He remained tense about the debt all the time. The responsibility of the family and the loans was always on his mind,” she said.

The couple, married in 2017, have two minor daughters. The woman said she is not employed and had stayed at home to care for the children at her husband’s insistence. “When the children were small, he asked me to focus on raising them,” she said.

## Family awaits support and relief

The widow alleged that no representative from Shoaib’s employer has contacted the family so far to offer support or reassurance. With no immediate income, the family is now hoping for government compensation or relief to help them survive the sudden crisis.

On Thursday morning, Shoaib’s body was brought to their home in Dubagga after a postmortem. His elderly mother, who lost her husband eight years ago, was inconsolable. Neighbours said Shoaib had bought the house barely five months ago and had recently completed renovations.

## Dreams cut short

“He had big plans for his daughters. He wanted them to study well and become an officer and a doctor,” said neighbour Mohammad Rehaan. Shoaib’s brother-in-law, Afsar Khan, said he had also planned to rent out part of the house to generate additional income.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the continued use of banned Chinese manjha and the devastating impact it has on innocent lives.
