A Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide in Maharashtra’s Akola district after reportedly feeling upset over his SSC examination results.
The student, identified as Vitthal Santosh Borde, had secured 69 per cent marks in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. According to reports, he was deeply disappointed as he had expected higher scores.
Police said the incident occurred shortly after the results were announced. Family members found the teenager unresponsive and immediately alerted authorities. He was later declared dead.
Family and community in shock
The tragic incident has left relatives, neighbours, and classmates devastated. Family members reportedly said the student had been anxious and emotionally disturbed after seeing his marks despite performing reasonably well academically.
The case has once again drawn attention to the intense academic pressure faced by students during board examination season.
Experts stress emotional support
Educationists and mental health professionals have repeatedly urged parents and schools to prioritise emotional well-being over marks and rankings. Experts say students often struggle with fear of failure, expectations, and comparison after examination results.
They emphasise that academic scores should not define a child’s worth or future potential.
Need for awareness and counselling
Counsellors stress the importance of open communication at home and in schools to help students cope with stress and disappointment. Early emotional support and reassurance can play a crucial role in preventing such tragedies.
Authorities are continuing further investigation into the incident
