A Class 4 student died suddenly after collapsing at his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district, triggering shock and panic in his village and raising questions over the cause of death.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Jujhela Chak village under the Dhanaura police station limits. The deceased, Mayank, aged around 10 years, was the elder son of farmer Deepak Kumar and Pushpa Devi.
Child collapses at home
According to family members, Mayank was sitting on a cot at around 5 pm watching short videos on a smartphone, while other family members were busy with household chores. Without warning, the child suddenly collapsed.
Alarmed relatives rushed him first to a private doctor and later to a private hospital in Dhanaura. After examining his pulse, blood pressure and other vital parameters, Dr Avneesh Gill declared the child dead.
Heart attack cited, cause unclear
The attending doctor reportedly stated that the child had suffered a heart attack. However, medical experts note that such an occurrence at such a young age is rare, and without a detailed post-mortem examination, the exact cause of death cannot be conclusively determined.
Despite medical advice generally recommending an autopsy in cases of sudden and unexplained death, the family brought the body home and performed the last rites without a post-mortem, leaving several questions unanswered.
Village in shock
The sudden death has left the family devastated and the village in a state of shock. In the absence of a post-mortem report, rumours and speculation have begun circulating locally, adding to the distress of the grieving family.
Police officials said that since no complaint was filed and the family declined a post-mortem, no formal investigation has been initiated so far. However, they noted that sudden deaths among children require careful medical evaluation to rule out underlying conditions.
