KASARAGOD: After a two-year pause, the Clubfoot Clinic at Kasaragod District Hospital has resumed operations, aligning its reopening with World Clubfoot Day on June 3. This initiative aims to offer free treatment to children from birth up to six years old who suffer from the congenital deformity.

Clubfoot, a condition where one or both feet are twisted inward and downward, can lead to lifelong disability if left untreated. The treatment protocol involves applying a plaster cast over 6 to 8 weeks, followed by the use of corrective footwear. Early detection, especially through newborn screening under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), plays a crucial role in successful outcomes.

The clinic will now function every Tuesday at Kasaragod General Hospital, the only government facility providing this service in the district apart from Thrikkaripur Taluk Hospital. Since its establishment in 2017, the Thrikkaripur clinic has successfully treated nearly 100 children, with about 200 more currently under care.

MLA N.A. Nellikkunnu inaugurated the district-level relaunch event. The function was presided over by Municipal Chairperson Abbas Beegum. An awareness session and family gathering were led by Dr. J.H. Manoj, orthopaedician at the district hospital.

Other key speakers and contributors included health committee chairperson Khalid Pachakkad, District RCH officer Dr. K.K. Shanty, NHM manager Dr. P.V. Arun, and other health officials.
