On Wednesday, Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation for 79 new projects worth Rs 1,383 crore under the Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam at an event on Wall Tax Road in Chennai. He highlighted the government’s proactive measures in mitigating damage from Cyclone Fengal, contrasting them with the 2015 floods when Chennai was severely affected. Stalin emphasized that despite some political opposition, the focus remains on serving the public and continuing relief operations in districts like Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Kallakurichi. At the same event, the CM inaugurated 29 completed projects, noting that the scope of the Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam, launched in March 2024 with an allocation of Rs 2,096 crore, now encompasses 252 projects worth Rs 6,309 crore. These projects span key areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, housing, water supply, and sewage management. Stalin outlined several major initiatives under the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), including the construction of new housing units on Wall Tax Road and Stanley Medical College Road, the development of playgrounds in Villivakkam and Royapuram, and the establishment of sports facilities in Tondiarpet. Other projects include the development of libraries in Kolathur, with an emphasis on strengthening community resources. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is undertaking Rs 204 crore worth of initiatives, including upgrading bus terminals, building additional school classrooms, and improving public safety infrastructure. Additionally, Stalin inaugurated new hostels for students with disabilities at Presidency College, constructed at a cost of Rs 21.6 crore, providing accommodation for 210 students.
