Ambaji: A CNG tanker driver lost his life in a tragic accident at the Shiva Ambika CNG petrol pump in Gujarat’s Ambaji after an Eeco car unexpectedly rolled forward and struck him while he was resting outside the fuel station office. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Rajendrasinh Parmar, who had reportedly completed unloading gas from a CNG tanker before the accident occurred.
The shocking incident has raised concerns about vehicle safety and precautions at fuel stations, where even a minor lapse can result in fatal consequences.
Accident captured on CCTV
According to preliminary information, Rajendrasinh Parmar had finished unloading gas from the tanker and was resting on a cot placed near the office of the Shiva Ambika CNG petrol pump.
At the same time, an Eeco car was parked at the CNG dispensing unit with its rear door open while refuelling was in progress.
CCTV footage showed the vehicle suddenly moving forward for reasons yet to be established. The car rammed into the cot on which Rajendrasinh was sitting, causing severe injuries.
The incident unfolded within seconds, leaving employees and customers at the fuel station stunned.
Staff rush to rescue the victim
Immediately after the accident, petrol pump staff and bystanders rushed to the spot to rescue the injured driver.
Rajendrasinh was pulled from beneath the vehicle and shifted to Ambaji Civil Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The fatal accident drew a large crowd to the petrol pump as news of the incident spread.
Police register case
Following the accident, the victim’s son, Divyarajsinh Parmar, lodged a complaint at the Ambaji Police Station.
Based on the complaint, police took the driver of the Eeco car into custody and registered a case.
Investigators have begun examining all aspects of the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
CCTV footage under examination
Police said the CCTV footage recorded at the fuel station is being analysed as part of the investigation.
Officials are trying to establish why the parked vehicle suddenly rolled forward and whether negligence or failure to follow safety procedures contributed to the accident.
Statements of eyewitnesses, petrol pump staff and the driver are also expected to form part of the investigation.
Authorities said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
