A 34-year-old man who was allegedly attacked by his colleague over a workplace dispute succumbed to his injuries at Gandhi Hospital on Saturday night. Police have altered the case from attempt to murder to murder and launched a detailed investigation.
The deceased, Abdul Salam Shaik (34), a native of Mumbai, was residing in a shared accommodation at Upparpally with friends. He was employed with a catering company in the city.
Dispute turns violent
According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday night when Salam and his colleagues were present in their room. His team leader, identified as Saddam, reportedly picked up an argument with him over a work-related issue.
In a sudden outburst, Saddam allegedly attacked Salam with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe injuries. Initially, Salam was rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital for advanced treatment.
Hospital authorities, upon examining the nature of the injuries, grew suspicious and alerted the police. It was initially claimed that Salam had sustained injuries after falling from a DCM vehicle. However, subsequent enquiries and statements from colleagues revealed that he had been assaulted.
Case altered to murder
Based on preliminary findings, police registered a case of attempt to murder. Despite medical efforts, Salam succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night. Following his death, the case has now been altered to murder.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and to take appropriate legal action against those involved.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the grave consequences of workplace conflicts turning violent.
