Lucknow: A complaint has been filed against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Rajya Sabha MPs K C Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, over an alleged “anti-national” statement.
The complaint, lodged in a Lucknow court by Nripendra Pandey, former general secretary of the Central Bar Association, alleges that Rahul Gandhi made the statement during the inauguration of the Congress headquarters, Indira Bhawan, in Delhi. The statement reportedly included that he was “fighting against the BJP, the RSS and the nation of India”.
The complainant further claimed that the other leaders, by remaining silent, provided tacit consent and were therefore complicit. The complaint states that the remarks were made with deliberate intent, aiming to destabilise the country and sow division.
Special Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Alok Verma has taken cognisance of the complaint and scheduled a hearing on October 1 to record the complainant’s statement.
The development has sparked a political controversy, with the case attracting attention from both parties and the media, ahead of upcoming elections.
