New Delhi: Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened a critical meeting to assess the party’s performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who participated in the meeting, emphasized the necessity for Rahul Gandhi to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition (LoP), stating it was a demand from the people.

During the CWC meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged leaders to remain united, emphasizing the need to build on the public’s trust in the party. A significant outcome of the meeting was the CWC’s unanimous resolution requesting Rahul Gandhi to take on the role of LoP in the Lok Sabha. Senior party leader K.C. Venugopal announced the resolution at a press conference, expressing confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s capability to lead the opposition’s campaign in Parliament.

The resolution commended Rahul Gandhi for his contributions during the election campaign, particularly highlighting the impact of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which he spearheaded. These initiatives were described as historic turning points in Indian politics, instilling hope and confidence among millions of party workers and voters.

The CWC praised Rahul Gandhi’s focused and incisive election campaign, which centered on protecting the Constitution. The PaanchNyay-Pachees Guarantee program, which resonated strongly during the campaign, was attributed to Gandhi’s extensive engagement with various communities, including youth, women, farmers, workers, Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, and minorities.

When asked if Rahul Gandhi had accepted the role of LoP in the Lok Sabha, K.C. Venugopal stated that Gandhi would make a decision soon. Venugopal also noted the charged atmosphere among party leaders and workers, signaling the beginning of a Congress revival. He observed a marked change in the CWC’s atmosphere compared to four months ago.

Speaking after the CWC meeting, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari reinforced the call for Rahul Gandhi to become LoP, describing him as fearless and courageous. The extended CWC meeting saw the attendance of key figures, including Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tewari, D.K.
