Congress MP Faints in the Well of RS Amid NEET Protest

Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam, from Chattisgarh fainted in the well of the Rajya Sabha during a protest against the Chair’s refusal to allow a discussion on the NEET paper leaks.

Following the upper House’s reassembly after a recess, several Opposition members, including Congress representative Phulo Devi Netam, entered the well of the House, vocally demanding a discussion on the alleged NEET irregularities.

Netam suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed in the well. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, who witnessed the incident, immediately instructed fellow members to assist her and adjourned the House until 2:30 pm. She was subsequently transported to RML Hospital via ambulance.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who visited Netam in the hospital, stated that a CT scan would be conducted, along with further medical examinations over the next few days. “I hope she will be alright today, but she has to undergo a complete medical examination,” he noted.

DMK floor leader Tiruchi Siva, describing the event to PTI, revealed that Netam’s blood pressure was dangerously high at 214/113, posing a significant risk of stroke. “Even after that, they are resuming the debate. I have never seen this in two decades,” he commented, adding that the Opposition members had walked out of the discussion.

Additionally, the BJD, although not part of the INDIA bloc, also staged a walkout in response to not allowing discussion on NEET.
