In a dramatic turn of events, a man and his wife were arrested in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, after attempting to evade a police checkpoint during a combing operation late Saturday night. The couple’s SUV sped off with a policeman clinging to its bonnet, leaving him injured, a senior official reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 11:15 PM when the SUV driver ignored police signals to stop. Constable Nitesh Ramji, in an attempt to halt the vehicle, latched onto its bonnet. The SUV dragged him for a distance, resulting in injuries to his hands and legs. As the vehicle gained speed, Ramji fell off, narrowly escaping being crushed by a dumper that managed to brake just in time.

Another officer holding onto the half-open driver’s side window was also thrown off as the SUV accelerated. Both officers sustained injuries.

The couple, arrested by Chandkheda police, face serious charges, including attempted murder and causing grievous harm to a public servant. Authorities revealed that the woman had signaled her husband to flee, intensifying the situation.

This harrowing episode highlights the risks faced by law enforcement during routine operations and raises concerns about civilian disregard for public safety.
