Proceedings at International Crimes Tribunal-1 were temporarily suspended after a grieving mother broke down in tears while watching video footage of her son’s fatal shooting during court testimony.
The emotional incident took place as Hashi Akhter appeared before the tribunal in a case linked to the deaths of 28 people during violence in 2024.
Video of son’s final moments played
The footage reportedly showed her 23-year-old son Rakib Hossain lying on a road after being shot, bleeding heavily.
As the video was played in court, Hashi became overwhelmed with grief and struggled to continue speaking.
She reportedly told the judges that she carried her injured son in a rickshaw to hospital, but he could not say a word to her.
Court stops proceedings
Seeing the witness in distress, Presiding Judge Md Mohitul Hoque Anam Chowdhury ordered the hearing to be paused for several minutes.
Lawyers and court officials then stepped forward to comfort the grieving mother before proceedings resumed later.
Case linked to 2024 killings
The testimony is part of a crimes against humanity case concerning the killing of 28 people in Rampura during unrest in July 2024.
Former security and police officials are among those accused in the matter.
Pain behind every case
The hearing reflected how courtroom trials often reopen deep wounds for families seeking justice after violent loss.
