In a shocking incident from North 24 Parganas, a newborn declared dead by a private nursing home was found alive hours later, just as her family was preparing for burial.
The baby was born to 28-year-old Rubina Parvin at a nursing home in Swarupnagar on Thursday morning. Soon after delivery, hospital authorities informed the family that the infant had died and handed over the body, wrapped in gauze and plastic.
Family discovers signs of life
The grieving family returned home and began funeral preparations. However, nearly four to five hours later, when they opened the wrapping, they were stunned to find the baby showing signs of life.
Family members reported that the infant was moving her hands and legs, prompting them to rush her immediately to a nearby hospital.
Baby stable, investigation underway
The newborn was admitted to Basirhat District Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. According to family members, both the baby and the mother are stable.
A complaint has been filed at Swarupnagar Police Station, accusing the nursing home of gross medical negligence.
Nursing home denies wrongdoing
Authorities at the nursing home have denied institutional negligence. They stated that the doctor who declared the baby dead has been issued a show-cause notice, and further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
