New Delhi: A former domestic worker allegedly used access codes and knowledge of spare key locations to enter a secured residence in Amar Colony, where a 22-year-old woman was found dead in a case that has shocked the national capital.
According to the Delhi Police, the accused, identified as Rahul Meena, had previously worked at the house and was dismissed over a month ago. Investigators believe his familiarity with the home’s security systems enabled him to bypass multiple layers of protection.
Entry through multi-layered security
Police said the residence had a four-layered security system, including restricted lift access and multiple locked entry points on each floor. To reach the victim’s room, several locks had to be opened.
Officials suspect that the accused was aware of the security codes and the location of spare keys used by domestic staff. This allowed him to move through the house without raising suspicion.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the victim was alone at home.
Victim found after parents returned
The 22-year-old victim, an engineering graduate and civil services aspirant, was discovered by her parents when they returned home around 8 am. She was found unresponsive, following which police were alerted.
A post-mortem examination later confirmed sexual assault and death by strangulation.
Accused arrested within hours
The accused was arrested from a hotel in Dwarka within hours of the incident. Police said he had changed clothes after leaving the crime scene in an apparent attempt to evade identification.
He has been booked under charges of rape, murder and robbery, and further investigation is underway.
CCTV footage aids investigation
Investigators have relied on CCTV footage to trace the suspect’s movements. He was reportedly seen entering the residential complex early in the morning and leaving less than an hour later.
Footage also captured a change in clothing, which police believe was an attempt to avoid detection.
