Across India’s million-plus cities, there were 81,144 accidents—a 5.7% increase from 2022—compared to a 4.2% national increase. These cities accounted for 16.9% of all road accidents and 10% of total fatalities, despite hosting only a fraction of the population.
The top ten million-plus cities—including Delhi, Bengaluru, Jabalpur, Chennai, Indore, Malappuram, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhopal, and Kochi—were responsible for 41.1% of road accident deaths in this category.
