New Delhi: Security has been intensified across the national capital ahead of Independence Day, with Delhi Police deploying more than 1,600 personnel in the southern zone and stepping up surveillance to ensure peaceful celebrations on August 15.
More personnel and checkpoints deployed
Police have established around 60 pickets, including border, major and minor checkpoints, across the southern zone. Officers are conducting checks on suspicious persons and vehicles, while parking areas and sensitive locations are also being closely monitored.
Traffic police, PCR teams and local police personnel are working together at major pickets as part of an integrated security arrangement.
Drone surveillance stepped up
The security plan includes intensified patrolling, inspections by senior officers and aerial surveillance through drones. Police are paying particular attention to areas expected to witness large gatherings or increased movement.
Officials said personnel of different ranks have been deployed on the streets, with officers directed to conduct regular inspections in their respective areas.
Border areas under close watch
Police are also keeping a close watch on border areas and major entry and exit points into the capital. The focus is on identifying suspicious activity at an early stage and taking preventive action against criminal and anti-social elements.
Officials described the arrangements as multi-layered, involving local police, traffic personnel and other security teams.
With Independence Day approaching, authorities said regular patrolling, vehicle checks and surveillance would continue to maintain public safety and ensure smooth celebrations across Delhi.
