Amidst a severe water scarcity aggravated by intense summer conditions, Delhi is poised to receive supplementary water provisions from Himachal Pradesh. The Supreme Court, in its recent ruling, mandated the hill state to release an additional 125 cusecs of water to Delhi. Furthermore, it instructed Haryana to ensure an uninterrupted flow of water to the capital.
The bench, consisting of Justices Prashant K Mishra and KV Viswanathan, underscored the necessity of keeping water issues apolitical. Himachal Pradesh expressed willingness to provide water to Delhi, whereas Haryana cited the absence of a mechanism to gauge and segregate the additional water supplied by Himachal.
Additionally, the Supreme Court emphasized the imperative of water conservation by the Delhi government, stressing the avoidance of any wastage.
