New Delhi: In a rapid response, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a Sub-Inspector from Police Station Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 4.5 lakh from a complainant.
The case originated from a complaint against the Sub-Inspector, accusing him of demanding a bribe. According to the complainant, an employee of a private company whose Managing Director faced charges in FIR No. 16/2018 registered at Police Station Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, the Sub-Inspector had solicited a bribe of Rs. 25 lakh about 10 to 12 days ago. Allegedly, the bribe was sought to prevent the arrest and implication of the complainant’s daughter and son-in-law in the mentioned FIR. The complainant asserted that the Sub-Inspector had agreed to accept a partial payment of Rs. 5 lakh out of the demanded Rs. 25 lakh.
Responding promptly to the complaint, the CBI took decisive action, setting up a trap and apprehending another Sub-Inspector from the same Police Station while he accepted the bribe/undue advantage of Rs. 4.5 lakh from the complainant, following the instructions of the initially accused Sub-Inspector of Police Station Barakhamba Road, New Delhi.
Search operations are currently underway at the premises of both Sub-Inspectors, and the investigation remains ongoing.
