New Delhi: The lack of crew members had an impact on IndiGo‘s operations across the country, causing delays on several of its domestic flights. According to data from the Union Aviation Ministry, only 45 per cent of IndiGo flights on Saturday July 2, were able to depart on time.
According to sources, many crew members used their sick leave to participate in Air India’s recruitment drive.
The airline has been approached for an explanation by the aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA, regarding the delays.
“55% of IndiGo flights were delayed on Saturday. Why? A significant number of crew members took sick leave and went for Air India’s recruitment drive. P.S. This isn’t a joke. This really happened,” was a tweet from a user.
IndiGo has not yet released a statement addressing the reasons for the delays. However, it responded to several passengers’ complaints about the hold-up on Twitter.
Another said, “40 minutes in the aircraft now. And the crew refuses to turn on air conditioning. Requests met with “Sir we can understand your discomfort, but this is out of our hands! ?” This after delays and completely botched up ground management.”
We regret the experience, Sir. The air conditioning is powered by engines. As soon as the flight takes off, A/c kicks in. Further, we’ve noted your feedback. ~Keshav
