New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Ahmedabad apprehended three key individuals involved in a smuggling operation through the Mundra Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The authorities conducted the operation on Saturday and seized smuggled goods valued at Rs 100 crores.

According to the DRI, these three individuals were responsible for smuggling E-Cigarettes, branded mobile accessories, premium branded shoes, bags, perfumes, and electronics items through the Mundra SEZ, attempting to import them into India. The DRI had previously seized goods worth 100 crores in January 2023, including similar items like E-cigarettes, branded mobile accessories, premium branded shoes, bags, perfumes, and electronics items. Additionally, the middlemen who tried to assist the cartel in clearing the consignment from Indian Customs were already arrested earlier.

The DRI officials confirmed that the three accused have admitted to their active involvement in the smuggling and have been arrested under the provisions of the Indian Customs Act. Further investigations are underway in this matter.
