New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a strong statement in response to the violent attack on its team during a raid in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. According to the ED, the attack occurred during searches at the premises of Sahajahan Sheikh, the Convenor of TMC, North 24 Parganas, in connection with the PDS scam in West Bengal.

In a detailed account, the ED disclosed that its team, accompanied by CRPF personnel, faced an aggressive mob of 800-1000 people armed with weapons such as lathis, stones, and bricks. The intention, as per the statement, was to cause harm and even death to the ED officials.

The aftermath of the attack saw three ED officials sustain severe injuries, leading to their admission to the hospital for treatment. The violent mob not only physically harmed the officials but also resorted to theft, snatching personal and official belongings, including mobile phones, laptops, cash, and wallets. Additionally, the ED vehicles fell victim to the rampage, suffering damage during the chaotic incident.

The ED’s mission to conduct raids related to an alleged ration distribution scam faced unexpected resistance from followers of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in the Sandeshkhali area. The residents reportedly overpowered the officials, vandalized vehicles, and even inflicted severe head injuries on some members of the ED team.

The tension escalated when the ED team, attempting to raid the house of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, encountered a locked door. Despite repeated attempts to communicate, there was no response from inside. After an hour of waiting, the investigating officer attempted to break the lock, drawing a crowd of locals to the scene.

The incident has underscored the challenges and risks faced by law enforcement agencies in carrying out their duties, and it raises concerns about the safety of officials involved in such operations. The ED’s stern statement reflects the gravity of the situation and the need for swift action to address the brazen attack on its personnel.
