Over the past decade, the landscape of education in India has undergone significant transformation, marked by a notable surge in school and college fees across various regions. This trend has sparked widespread discussion and debate regarding the accessibility and affordability of quality education.

Recently, a resident of Delhi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express dismay over the exorbitant fees he was required to pay for his son’s playschool education. The man revealed that the annual fees amounted to a staggering Rs 4.3 lakh, surpassing his own educational expenses. His post included a breakdown of the fees, illustrating various charges including registration fees, annual fees, and term-wise expenses.

The post garnered significant attention and prompted a flurry of responses from concerned users questioning the rationale behind such steep fees for early childhood education. Many raised pertinent questions about the correlation between high fees and the quality of education provided, as well as the facilities offered by these institutions.

This incident is not an isolated case, as evidenced by similar instances shared by parents across different cities in India. In a recent example from Gurgaon, a parent revealed paying Rs 30,000 per month for his son’s education in Class 3, projecting a substantial annual expense that could escalate to Rs 9 lakh by the time the child reaches Class 12.

These accounts underscore the growing financial burden on parents seeking quality education for their children and highlight the urgent need for a broader dialogue on education affordability and accessibility in India.
