Tension gripped a locality in Dehradun after a dog was allegedly beaten to death and NGO workers were attacked when they tried to intervene, police said.
Rescue attempt turns violent
According to members of an animal welfare organisation, they reached Nehru Colony after receiving information that a man had fatally assaulted a dog.
When they attempted to step in, locals allegedly attacked them with sticks, leading to injuries to at least one NGO member. A video of the incident has since surfaced on social media, showing a man wielding a stick.
Locals cite safety concerns
Residents, however, presented a different version, claiming the dog had bitten several children and posed a threat to people in the area.
They said tensions escalated after the NGO workers arrived, leading to the confrontation.
Police response and complaints
Police officials confirmed the incident and said a complaint has been filed by local residents against an NGO member and her associates.
As of now, no formal complaint has been lodged by the NGO. Authorities are examining the video footage and statements from both sides to determine the sequence of events.
