A 48-year-old farmer was allegedly beaten to death by his own son following a dispute over money to buy liquor at Sitha Nagar village in Papannapet mandal of Medak, police said on Tuesday.
Dispute over alcohol turns fatal
The deceased, Langidi Lakshmaiah, lived with his wife and two sons and earned his livelihood by cultivating crops on his two acres of farmland. Police said his elder son, Srikanth (25), who is married, was addicted to alcohol and frequently harassed his parents, demanding money to purchase liquor.
On Monday night, Srikanth reportedly picked up an argument with his father after Lakshmaiah refused to give him money. The dispute escalated, and the accused allegedly attacked his father with a stick, beating him repeatedly.
Victim died on the spot
Lakshmaiah sustained severe injuries and bled profusely during the assault. He collapsed and died on the spot before any medical help could be arranged. Family members and neighbours alerted the police soon after the incident.
Case registered, probe underway
Police registered a case of murder and took the accused into custody. The victim’s body was shifted to the government hospital in Medak for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Investigating officers said statements from family members and villagers are being recorded. Preliminary inquiries indicate that alcoholism and repeated domestic disputes may have led to the fatal attack.

The incident has left the small farming village shaken, with residents expressing grief over the violent death and concern over the growing impact of alcohol addiction on families. Police said further legal action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and investigation findings.
