New Delhi: Aqib Imran, the man accused of killing a 21-year-old Delhi University student in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, has been arrested following a gunfight with police, officials said. The arrest comes a day after the student was found stabbed to death at her home.
Accused arrested after gunfight
Police intercepted Imran while attempting to apprehend him on Friday. According to officials, he opened fire at the police team, firing four rounds, after which a gunfight broke out. He was subsequently arrested.
The accused has been identified as Aqib alias Imran, 26, and police had launched a major search operation after the murder. The investigation had earlier led officers to suspect him as the prime accused.
Student was found dead at home
The victim, identified as Muskan, was a Delhi University School of Open Learning student who also worked as a content creator and part-time model. She was found fatally injured at her home in Tilak Nagar on Wednesday evening.
Police said she had known Imran for around 18 months. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding their relationship and the events that preceded the killing.
According to preliminary police findings, Imran allegedly attacked Muskan with a knife following an argument. Officers are continuing to establish the precise motive and sequence of events.
Investigation continues
Police are also examining Imran’s previous record as part of the investigation. Officials have said he was previously involved in a 2021 case involving assault and culpable homicide.
The arrest is a significant development in the case, but investigators will now focus on establishing the full circumstances surrounding the murder and gathering evidence for further legal proceedings.
