A Dubai-based manpower agency owner and his brother-in-law were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly abducting a former employee and his girlfriend over a financial dispute, police said.

The arrested have been identified as P Jayamohan (38) and V Arun Pandian (31). Jayamohan runs Apple Star Contracting Manpower Agency in Dubai.

Salary dispute led to alleged misappropriation

According to police, the victim K Sarathkumar (29), a resident of Subramaniyapuram, had been working as an accountant with the agency for nearly seven years.

Sarathkumar told investigators that he had not been paid his salary for the past six months. Allegedly frustrated by the prolonged non-payment, he misappropriated around ₹47 lakh from the agency’s bank account, police said.

Attempted abduction and police intervention

Police said Sarathkumar and his girlfriend travelled to Chennai on December 26. During their visit, Jayamohan and Pandian allegedly attempted to forcibly take the couple away. Following information received by the police, officers intervened at the time and let all parties go after initial questioning.

However, the matter escalated days later.

Couple abducted, rescued late night

On Sunday, the accused allegedly abducted Sarathkumar and his girlfriend. Acting swiftly on a complaint, police traced their location and rescued the couple late at night, officials said.

Following the rescue, a detailed investigation was conducted, after which Jayamohan and Pandian were arrested on Tuesday on charges related to abduction and criminal intimidation. Further inquiry is under way to verify financial transactions linked to the alleged misappropriation and salary dispute.

Police said appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
