Dumka: A goat sacrifice ritual at Chhuriya Baba Temple in Godda district took a horrific turn on Saturday afternoon when a man lost his left palm in a suspected revenge-driven attack.
The incident occurred around 2 pm near the Kajhiya river along the Godda–Pirpainti road, where the temple is known to host goat sacrifices every Saturday and Tuesday. At the time, the temple was crowded with devotees.
The victim, identified as Jichho Yadav from Kakna village, was assisting in the ceremony when his hand was severed by Ramkul Yadav alias Mantu Yadav from nearby Chilona village. Eyewitnesses reported that Ramkul appeared intoxicated during the ritual.
Jichho was immediately rushed to Godda Sadar Hospital, but due to the severity of his injury, he was referred to a more advanced medical facility for treatment.
Following the incident, Jichho’s mother, Parvati Devi, lodged an FIR against the accused, claiming the act was intentional and motivated by past animosity. She told the police that Ramkul had earlier fractured her son’s leg in a previous altercation.
Police have confirmed the accused is on the run. B.K. Sah, officer-in-charge of Muffassil Police Station, stated that an investigation is underway based on the victim’s mother’s statement. Authorities are actively searching for the absconding suspect.
The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about safety during religious rituals.
