In a deeply concerning incident near the western gate of the Taj Mahal in Agra, an 80-year-old man was found tied to the front seat of a parked car and left unattended while his family went sightseeing on Thursday.

The man, reportedly in frail condition and visibly distressed by the afternoon heat and humidity, was discovered by alert parking lot staff, who noticed his condition through the car window. Reacting swiftly, they broke the window to rescue him and immediately informed the police and emergency services.

Inspector Kunwar Singh of the tourism police confirmed the report. “Our team was alerted by the parking staff, who saw an unconscious elderly person inside a locked vehicle with a Maharashtra number plate. The six family members had left for a tour of the monument,” he said.

A medical team arrived promptly and recommended immediate hospitalisation, though the family reportedly returned to the spot after hearing the commotion. One of them identified the man as his father and left the area with him in the same vehicle, even as investigations began.

Authorities are gathering details of the family and treating the incident as one of potential negligence.

This event has sparked public outrage and calls for stronger awareness campaigns and legal measures to prevent similar neglect, especially towards vulnerable senior citizens.
