A youth from Bihar’s Sheikhpura district who claimed to have secured Rank 440 in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination has gone missing after it was revealed that the rank actually belonged to another candidate.
The youth, identified as Ranjit Yadav, had earlier received widespread recognition in his district after news spread that he had cleared the prestigious civil services exam.
Felicitations and public praise
Following the claim, Yadav was invited by a local Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA, who reportedly honoured him and presented a cash gift in recognition of his supposed achievement.
He was also felicitated at the local police station, while residents and community organisations across the district invited him to public events to celebrate his success.
During these events, Yadav even delivered motivational speeches encouraging students to remain focused on their goals.
“If you cannot clearly see your goal, then no matter how hard you work or how much guidance your teachers give you, you will not achieve success,” he told audiences during one such event.
Truth emerges after verification
However, the story took a dramatic turn when people began verifying the UPSC results list. It was discovered that Rank 440 actually belonged to another candidate named Ranjith from Karnataka, and not to Ranjit Yadav.
Once the discrepancy became public, questions began to surface about how the false claim had spread and why the achievements had not been verified earlier.
Youth goes missing after exposure
After the revelation, locals reportedly began searching for Yadav to seek clarification. However, he has since gone missing and is reportedly absconding, according to people familiar with the situation.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users pointing out the importance of verifying information before publicly celebrating achievements.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any formal complaint or investigation has been initiated regarding the matter.
