Seven members of a family travelling in an Eco vehicle were attacked early Monday morning on the Pune–Solapur Highway near Bhigwan. Two armed assailants targeted the group, which included a 70-year-old driver, three women, a 17-year-old girl, and two teenage boys, as they paused their journey to Pandharpur.
According to police, the attackers approached the stationary vehicle brandishing a weapon and forcibly took gold ornaments and valuables from the passengers.
After the incident, the family managed to drive to a nearby village. With assistance from local residents, they reported the crime to Bhigwan Police Station. A formal case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sections related to armed robbery.
Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh confirmed that the investigation is underway. “We have begun checking CCTV footage from the area to trace the accused. Medical examinations and further evidence collection are in progress,” Singh stated.
The two suspects remain absconding, and police teams have intensified search operations in surrounding locations.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity along the highway. The incident has raised serious concerns over traveler safety, especially during late-night and early-morning hours.
