New Delhi: A Delhi man who was preparing for his wedding was allegedly killed in Gurugram, with police claiming that his former colleague and her husband later used his phone to send messages to his family suggesting that he was alive.
Yuvraj Singh Manchanda had gone to Gurugram on September 6 for what he described as an urgent meeting with former colleague Anya Vats. He had informed his sisters, fiancée and boss about the meeting after completing wedding shopping and finalising his sherwani.
Family grew suspicious after messages
According to the investigation, Yuvraj told his family that Anya would arrive shortly and that he would call after the meeting. However, he did not return home and his phone became unreachable.
His family later received WhatsApp messages from his phone saying he was “fine” and that the phone might be switched off. The messages reportedly continued for two days, with his return date repeatedly changed.
Growing suspicious, the family asked him to appear on a video call. When there was no response, they filed a missing person report at Lajpat Nagar police station on September 11.
Police allege couple killed him
Police allege that Yuvraj was taken to an SUV belonging to Anya and her husband, Sanyam Sachdeva. Investigators claim Anya shot him in the neck while Sanyam was driving.
The couple allegedly travelled with his body before dumping it in a drain in Gurugram.
Police suspect a financial dispute may have been behind the alleged murder. Yuvraj, Anya and Sanyam had previously worked together at a real estate company. Anya was later working as a freelancer and assisting Yuvraj with property deals.
Family raises questions over cremation
Yuvraj’s family has also raised concerns over the handling of his body. Police reportedly found the body on September 10, but the family said they were informed only after it had been cremated on September 14.
The accused couple has been arrested and sent to five days of police custody. The investigation is continuing.
