Thursday’s tragic Air India crash took the lives of 11 people from Rajasthan, with one Udaipur family’s heartbreaking loss casting a particularly dark shadow. Dr. Prateek Joshi, his wife Dr. Komi Vyas, and their three children—daughter Miraya and twin sons Pradyut and Nakul—were all aboard the doomed flight, headed to London to start a new life.

Dr. Prateek had moved to the UK a few years ago to pursue higher studies and had recently established his career. Finally prepared to reunite with his family, he had made plans for them to join him in London. Dr. Komi had recently resigned from her job at Udaipur’s Pacific Medical College and Hospital. Friends recall her excitement about beginning a new chapter as a family.

“They shopped together across Udaipur just days ago,” said Lokesh Shukla, a close friend. “They were full of hope and dreams.”

Dr. Prateek’s father, J. P. Joshi, operates a sonography center in Udaipur, and his mother, Dr. Anita Joshi, was also in the medical profession. The family was admired for their kindness and professional excellence.

Other victims from Rajasthan included Shubh and Shagun Modi, who were heading to London for a holiday; Payal Khateek, a student; chefs Vardi Chand and Prakash Chandra Menaria returning to work in the UK; Khushboo Rajpurohit, newly married and moving to join her husband; and Bikaner businessman Abhinav Parihar.

Local authorities confirmed the victims’ remains will arrive by Friday evening, with cremations scheduled for Saturday. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has pledged full support to grieving families.
