In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 20-year-old college student died after collapsing during her farewell speech at RG Shinde College in Dharashiv district, Maharashtra. The victim, Varsha Kharat, a final-year BSc student, was addressing her classmates when the incident occurred on April 5.
A short video of the moment has gone viral, showing Varsha in a saree, confidently speaking at the podium and sharing light-hearted remarks with her peers. Suddenly, she loses balance and crumples to the floor as stunned classmates rush toward the stage.
She was immediately taken to a government hospital in Paranda, but doctors declared her brought dead. Media reports later confirmed that Varsha had a known history of cardiac issues. Her uncle, Dhanaji Kharat, a Zilla Parishad school teacher, told The Times of India that she had undergone a heart bypass surgery seven years ago and was on regular medication.
Tragically, she had skipped her pills that day in the rush to attend her farewell ceremony. While the exact cause of death is pending confirmation, doctors suspect a sudden cardiac arrest may have occurred.
College officials described Varsha as an intelligent and ambitious student who dreamed of improving her family’s life. She belonged to a modest farming household and was the middle child, with an elder sister and younger brother.
Her untimely passing has left the campus community in shock and mourning.
