In a tragic and unusual incident, a 38-year-old farm worker lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of honey bees in Nimgaon village of Jalgaon district on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Ganesh Patil, had gone to work at a farm owned by Khumsingh Patil around 2.30 pm. According to Inspector Rangnath Dharbale of the Yawal Police Station, Ganesh was a resident of Yawal town and travelled daily to Nimgaon for farm work.
Sudden swarm turns fatal
While working in the field, honey bees from a tree reportedly became aggressive and attacked him. The swarm left Ganesh seriously injured, and he soon fell unconscious.
When the farm owner noticed him lying motionless, he immediately rushed him to the rural hospital in Yawal. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
The sudden nature of the attack has left villagers shocked, as such fatal bee incidents are rare in the area.
Gloom in neighbourhood
Ganesh was the only son in his family. News of his untimely death cast a pall of gloom over his neighbourhood in Yawal, with relatives and neighbours mourning the unexpected loss.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have advised farm workers and villagers to exercise caution around areas where bee hives are present, particularly during agricultural activities that may disturb them.
