An 11-month-old baby girl sustained a skull fracture after her father allegedly threw her to the ground during a violent altercation minutes before her naming ceremony at a hotel in south Bengaluru.
The incident, which occurred in mid-July, also involved the alleged assault of the child’s mother and maternal grandfather. Police have launched an investigation into the case.
Dispute erupted before naming ceremony
According to police, the accused, a man in his early 30s who is currently unemployed, became angry after having to wait at the venue while his wife and her parents were on their way to the naming ceremony.
When they arrived, he allegedly abused and assaulted his wife and father-in-law before turning violent towards the infant.
Baby suffers skull fracture
Police said the accused allegedly hurled the 11-month-old girl during the altercation, causing her to suffer a skull fracture.
The child was immediately rushed for medical treatment and is currently reported to be out of danger. Doctors are continuing to monitor her recovery.
Police investigating incident
Authorities have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the assault. Statements from family members and witnesses are being recorded as part of the probe.
