The Shivaji Nagar police in Govandi apprehended five individuals regarding the abduction case of Akram Haider Ali Qureshi, a 24-year-old auto rickshaw driver from Bainganwadi. After four days in captivity, Akram sought police assistance and pointed fingers at his father-in-law, Firoz Ansari, for orchestrating his abduction along with the disappearance of his wife, Sakina Khatun, 20, whom he wedded in July 2023.
Akram narrated to authorities that Sakina was forcibly taken from him a month prior and never returned. On May 25, he was lured to Mankhurd by a call from her relative, Jafar Khan, accompanied by three others. Subsequently, he was coerced into a car driven by another suspect, Afzal Ansari. They purportedly blindfolded him and transported him to Vasai, which he identified as his wife’s locality. He recounted being bound to a chair in an empty room, enduring physical assault and confinement.
The following day, his father-in-law visited, demanding a ransom of Rs2 lakh, equating to the expenses incurred during Akram’s wedding with Sakina, as per police reports. Akram’s mother sought police intervention upon learning of the situation.
Under the leadership of Senior Police Inspector Bapurao Deshmukh, a team headed by Shashikant Patil located Akram in Vasai, leading to the apprehension of the alleged perpetrators on charges of wrongful confinement, kidnapping for ransom, and issuing death threats.
