Mumbai: A fire erupted Sunday evening aboard an Indian Navy ship undergoing refit at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard, officials reported Monday.
Fortunately, there were no casualties from the blaze, the cause of which remains unknown. An investigation has been initiated to determine what sparked the fire.
According to an official spokesperson, the ship’s duty staff discovered the fire during routine maintenance operations onboard the vessel.
The ship’s fire-fighting team promptly responded, initiating efforts to contain the fire. They were soon reinforced by personnel from the naval dockyard fire brigade and nearby units.
Authorities managed to bring the fire under control later, and initial reports indicate no casualties. The extent of damage sustained by the vessel is yet to be assessed. The Indian Navy has launched an inquiry into the incident to ascertain further details.
