Videos showing people bursting firecrackers in the middle of busy roads have triggered widespread concern on social media, with two separate incidents from Hyderabad and Surat highlighting growing risks to public safety.
Fireworks from moving car shock Hyderabad commuters
A video that recently went viral shows an unidentified man bursting firecrackers from a moving car on the PVNR Expressway. The footage captures a red car speeding along the elevated expressway while a man continuously launches fireworks into the air.
The incident has alarmed commuters and netizens, who pointed out the dangers of sparks, sudden noise and distraction on a high-speed stretch used daily by thousands of vehicles. Many users demanded strict action, noting that such acts could easily cause accidents or panic among drivers.
As of now, authorities in Hyderabad have not identified the individual involved. Police officials said they are examining the video and traffic camera footage to trace the vehicle and take appropriate action under traffic and public safety laws.
Surat builder arrested for road celebration
In a separate incident, police in Surat arrested a 58-year-old builder, Deepak Ijardar, for bursting firecrackers in the middle of a busy road.
The incident occurred on December 21 near Langar Circle in the Dumas area. A video circulating online showed Ijardar stopping vehicles and lighting firecrackers on the road, causing traffic disruption and inconvenience to commuters.
Police said the firecrackers were burst near a local post office to celebrate his son Dhyey’s birthday. Ijardar, a resident of Sultanabad, was taken into custody after the video gained traction online and complaints were received from the public.
Safety concerns and public reaction
Both incidents have reignited debate on reckless public celebrations and the misuse of firecrackers in traffic zones. Road safety experts warn that fireworks on highways or busy roads can distract drivers, reduce visibility and trigger sudden braking, increasing the risk of serious accidents.
Social media users have called for stricter enforcement, heavier fines and faster identification of offenders through CCTV and vehicle registration data. Many stressed that celebrations should never come at the cost of public safety.
Authorities in both cities have reiterated that bursting firecrackers on roads violates traffic and safety regulations and will attract legal action.
