Initial reports indicate that the laborers were working in the sealing unit when a spark ignited the blast. The factory, which produces gunpowder, firecrackers, safety fuses,  and detonators, was severely damaged by the explosion, which also triggered a fire within the premises.

Despite immediate efforts by the factory management to contain the situation, the intensity of the blast overwhelmed their intervention.

Six injured individuals were rushed to Dande Hospital near Ravi Nagar, while four others were taken to another nearby private hospital. Dr. Pinak Dande confirmed that five victims were already dead upon arrival, and one individual remains in critical condition with severe burn injuries.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed grief over the incident and he cancelled the celebration planned by his supporters after his visit to the city after assuming charge as union minister.
