An English-Brazilian married couple has gone viral on social media after sharing a video that highlights the modern, high-tech side of Hyderabad, challenging long-held stereotypes about India.
‘This place in India might surprise you’
The couple, Chris and Carol, who have been travelling the world since 2019, posted an Instagram reel titled “This place in India might surprise you.” The video features visuals from HITEC City, showcasing wide roads, glass-fronted office buildings and a clean, contemporary urban landscape.
“It’s our first day in Hyderabad, and we have come to Hitec City, which is something completely different compared to what we have seen in India,” Chris said in the video.
Carol added that several global technology giants, including Google, IBM, Microsoft, Dell and Apple, have a strong presence in the area.
Breaking stereotypes about India
The couple said travel content from India often focuses on chaos and overcrowding, which shapes global perceptions. “The India of chaos and trash is normally what goes viral, and that’s the only side many foreigners know about,” they noted, adding that cities like Hyderabad reflect the country’s diversity and rapid urban growth.
They also revealed that this was their second visit to India and that they planned to explore more relaxed destinations this time, starting with Hyderabad before heading to the Himalayas.
Social media reacts positively
As of the latest update, the video had crossed 1.6 lakh views, drawing hundreds of comments from users who agreed with the couple’s observations. Several people shared personal experiences of working or living in Hyderabad, while others suggested visiting emerging hubs like GIFT City.
Many commenters described Hyderabad as a city that blends history, present-day development and future aspirations, praising its infrastructure and tech ecosystem.
The viral clip has once again highlighted how selective narratives often overshadow India’s progress, with Hyderabad’s Hitec City standing out as a symbol of the country’s evolving urban identity.
