New Delhi: A food safety inspection at Andaz Delhi in Aerocity has uncovered expired food products, pest activity, poor storage practices and concerns over the handling of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, prompting the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to issue a notice to the hotel operator.
The inspection was conducted on June 22, 2026, at Juniper Hotels Pvt Ltd, which operates the luxury hotel. FSSAI later confirmed the action through its official social media account.
87 kg of expired sweets found at hotel
One of the major findings was the discovery of around 87 kg of expired sweets in the hotel’s confectionery section. The products were destroyed during the inspection.
Inspectors also found two packets of bread carrying expired stickers and an expired cake base in the pastry section.
The inspection raised concerns beyond expired food. Flies and cockroaches were reportedly found in the pastry area, while signs of pest activity and a foul smell were also noted in parts of the kitchen.
Veg and non-veg food handling raises concern
The inspection also flagged shortcomings in the segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparation.
According to the findings, vegetarian and non-vegetarian cutting boards were being kept in the same water container. Such practices can raise concerns over hygiene and the possibility of cross-contamination.
The inspection team also identified shortcomings in the hotel’s procurement procedures and in the verification of FSSAI licences held by its food suppliers.
Food samples collected for analysis
FSSAI collected samples of several food products during the inspection for further analysis. The samples included ghee, mayonnaise, lentils and sauces.
The regulatory authority said surveillance and regulatory samples had been collected and that further action would depend on the results of the analysis and the hotel’s compliance with the directions issued.
Hotel directed to take corrective action
Following the inspection, FSSAI directed the food business operator to address the non-compliances identified during the visit and submit a corrective action report.
The regulator said further regulatory action could follow depending on the hotel’s response and the findings from the laboratory analysis of the collected samples.
The inspection has brought attention to food safety practices at a luxury property where guests would expect stringent standards for food preparation, storage and kitchen hygiene.
The final regulatory outcome will depend on the corrective measures taken by the hotel and the results of the food samples collected by FSSAI
