Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly praised the Men in Blue after their six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the ongoing T20 Asia Cup. He also expressed confidence in India’s chances of winning the tournament.
India dominate Super Four clash
India posted a commanding six-wicket win over Pakistan on Sunday at Dubai International Stadium. While the group-stage fixture had been one-sided with a 7-wicket victory, Pakistan posed a stronger challenge in the Super Fours. Sahibzada Farhan’s composed 58-run knock and Faheem Ashraf’s quick-fire 20* off eight deliveries helped Pakistan reach 171/5—their highest total against India batting first in T20Is.
During the chase, Shubman Gill (47) and Abhishek Sharma (74) provided a stellar opening partnership, raising 105 runs in just 9.5 overs. Gill impressed with his orthodox technique, while Abhishek unleashed aggressive strokeplay, overpowering Pakistan’s bowling attack and easing pressure on India’s middle order. The victory extended India’s unbeaten streak to four matches in the tournament.

India will face Bangladesh in their next Super Four clash in Dubai on Wednesday. Pakistan, meanwhile, will attempt to regain momentum against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Ganguly confident of India’s title chances
Speaking to ANI, Ganguly said, “India is a very good team. We defeated Pakistan easily in the Super Four match. We have a good chance to win [the Asia Cup]. I hope we will play well.”
Re-elected CAB president
In other news, Ganguly was re-elected unopposed as Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president on Monday, succeeding his brother Snehasish Ganguly, who had held the position for nearly three years. Ganguly previously served as CAB president from 2015 to 2019.
“I have worked as a President for 5 years before this as well. We will do what is best. There is an immense craze for cricket in India. There is a lot of talent. It will be our work to give direction to this talent,” Ganguly told ANI.
